If you had any reason to suspect that Nvidia wouldn’t have fully-functional graphics drivers in time for Windows 8, you can probably dismiss them now: the company’s new R302 drivers have been WHQL-certified by Microsoft specifically for the new operating system. That’s the word from Nvidia’s official blog, which explains that the R302 drivers are specifically for Windows 8, as earlier versions of the operating system will stick with R300 drivers. The new branch includes support for all the new WDDM 1.2 features (including things like stereoscopic 3D optimizations and flicker-free screen rotation), and Nvidia says it will support Nvidia 3D Vision for 3D games right away. Sounds like just the thing to complement your Windows 8 Release…

You’ve probably never heard of the Samsung SGH-T999, SCH-I535 or SPH-L710, and that’s not surprising, but if you regularly buy the latest and greatest smartphones, one of them may soon be part of your life. All three codenames recently appeared at the Wi-Fi Alliance, where each of the devices has now been certified for dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. That in and of itself wouldn’t tell us how important these devices are, but believe it or not, those code numbers actually do: it just so happens that the existing SGH-T989 is T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II, and the SCH-I515 and SPH-L700 are variants of the Galaxy Nexus for Verizon and Sprint respectively.

We didn’t have much to complain about when it came to Samsung’s flagship phone and tablet, so we’re glad to see that both the Galaxy S II and Tab 10.1 have managed to jump through the requisite hoops for FIPS certification. The business-centric feature means that both Samsung devices have been given the thumbs up for use in governmental agencies and other similarly stickler-for-the-rule industries. While the Tab 10.1 certainly isn’t the first tablet to receive the certification, it’s perhaps the most pervasive. Does this lay the ghost of underwhelming business phones to rest? We hope so.

Updates are actually rolling out across a number of SE phones on NTT DoCoMo, enabling dozens upon dozens of new games to be tailored (and available) for the Arc and Acro in particular.
