Boston Dynamics New Robot Is Straight Out Of Your Apocalyptic Nightmares
They call it PETMAN because scientists like to tempt fate. Who knew putting a windbreaker and a gas mask on a robot would instantly turn it from mildly intimidating to most terrifying thing you've ever seen ?

If you think this running after you isn't scary, you're a liar.

Make sure you limber up before wiping humanity from the face of the Earth.

Without wasteland serial killer clothes, it's slightly less menacing.

Watch the beauty of public transit unfold in New York, Boston, and other cities around the world

YouTube user STLTransit has a wonderful collection of videos that visualize the movements of the public transit systems of various locations — turning public transit data into a visualization of a city’s pulse. Each video shows the ebb and flow of traffic during a single day, with various transit systems like bus and rail shown in different colors. The result is a brief but exciting glimpse at human life — a satellite’s view of a city’s living protoplasm on the streets below.

Happy International Creepy Boston Dynamics Robotic Horse Day!
I recognize you guys may have forgotten to obtain your favored robot horse a gift today, but this is International Creepy Robotic Boston Dynamics Robotic Equine Day, and it ’ s vital to get out there and commemorate the magic of the creepy robot equine.
This new Boston Dymanics robot, the Legged Squad Support System, is a new robotic based on Big Dog created to support squads in the field as they roll through opponent zone. This horsey can easily carry 400 pounds of payload and tour 20 miles on one fee. It also follows its human master around without the requirement for outside controls.
The vital thing right here? This monster looks completely untethered, and if I were coming up against a squad helped by a weird robot equine, I ’ d probably run the opposite direction. As it stands, however, these terrifying robot equines deserve our kudos and admiration if just due to the fact that they ’ re so freaking cool.

Comcast switches on Skype on Xfinity in Boston and Seattle today, eight more metros this week
Now you can Skype on Xfinity, and beyond. Comcast’s re-branded cable arm is touting a new trick beginning today, with customers in Boston and Seattle among the first to have access to the new Skype on Xfinity videoconferencing service (Atlanta, Augusta, Ga., Chicago, Detroit, Harrisburg, Pa., Indianapolis, Miami and Pittsburgh will be online by the end of the week). Interested parties can add a $ 9.95 monthly fee to their Triple Play service to take advantage, enabling “free” (read: $ 10-per-month) instant messaging and video chatting services. That monthly fee will presumably cover the requisite all-in-one kit, which includes an adaptor, a “high-quality” camera and a spiffy new Skype-enabled remote control with an IM-friendly keyboard on the rear. Naturally, your bud on the other end doesn’t need any special equipment, unless of course they plan to chat through their HDMI-capable Comcast box as well. Eligible customers can hit up the source link past the break to sign up, and breeze through the attached PR for a bit more detail.

Two Steps Away From Terminators: Boston Dynamics’ PETMAN Gets An Upgrade, Arms

BO is right — slap some Old Spice up in them pits!
Seen here looking eerily human, Boston Dynamics’ bipedal humanoid robot PETMAN has been upgraded with arms (capable of pushups!) and a smoother gait. Well thank God! If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s a goofy-walking robot. OMG — did you see PETMAN walking on his toes? What a sped!
Hit the jump for a very worthwhile video of his capabilities.

Boston Colleges Warns Students Against Using Wi-Fi (But Then Retracts Said Warning)

Common sense, for once, has prevailed. For whatever reason Boston College was telling its students that using a wireless router could be considered a “common example of copyright infringement.†Word got out, the Internet complained, and now the offending bullet point has been removed.
The note was spotted on the college’s information technology services Web site, and was intended to warn students of the dangers of copyright infringement. Nothing wrong with that in and of itself, but linking wireless router use to copyright infringement, as if buying the latest Linksys or Netgear automatically makes you a criminal, was clearly pretty silly.
The warning had noted that by using a wireless router you could possibly be opening yourself up to evil roommates who’d like to do nothing more than torrent movies all day long, possibly putting you, the owner of said router, in grave danger.
That bullet point has since been removed, and what remains are fairly benign warnings (sharing MP3 files across the Internet could constitute copyright infringement, and so forth).
