NHK’s new Super Hi-Vision sensor captures 8K at 120fps, fast enough for Usain Bolt?

As amazing as Super Hi-Vision televisions are, most of the footage we’ve seen is of slow-moving cityscapes, nature and portraits. We may get more action sequences soon, thanks to a new CMOS sensor capable of picking up 8K (33MP) footage at 120 frames per second. The joint project between NHK, Shizuoka University and the Research Institute of Electronics is being shown off on the 27th at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference The chip is developed on a .18 micrometer process, with an enhanced analog to digital converter that enables the faster frame rates. That cut down data processing time and power consumption, all key to getting some sweet super high res televisions (16x more pixels than your current HDTV) in our living room sooner rather than later. Our only question? If they can build a new camera around it in time to catch the world’s fastest human being do his thing at the 2012 London Olympics.

H2O Bolt promises unlimited 4G internet for $50, pretends it’s never heard of Clear

It’s not everyday that an MVNO decides to offer up unlimited data courtesy of Clearwire’s WiMAX network, but H2O’s latest entrant known as Bolt makes us wish the practice were far less frequent. The $ 50 no-contract service essentially replicates Clear’s own offering at the very same price point that’s been available to customers for years. Furthermore, both companies share Best Buy as their most significant retail channel. Now, for whatever reason, H2O’s Bolt Flash (the $ 100 USB modem) and Bolt Spider (the $ 150 mobile hotspot) will sit side-by-side Clear’s own offerings at the big box retailer, where it’ll be up to those in Smurf shirts to explain the difference — there’s none. You’ll find the PR after the break, but if you’re living in Detroit, Phoenix, Indianapolis, Louisville, New Orleans, Memphis or Albuquerque, none of this even remotely matters. Frustrating, isn’t it?

Motorola’s wraparound S10-HD Bluetooth headphones: for the Usain Bolt in all of us

Clearly, introducing one Bluetooth headset in a single day just isn’t enough for Motorola. In addition to the Oasis, the outfit has also let loose the new S10-HD, a wraparound set that is marketed as Bluetooth headphones rather than a BT headset (though it’s fully capable of acting as either / both). As expected, these guys are designed to withstand all sorts of sweat beads, enabling fitness junkies to keep on rockin’ in the free world regardless of how steamy the conditions may be. We’re also told that the speakers are recessed in their housing with a new ear cushion interface and hydrophobic acoustic mesh (fancy!), and silicon seals are in place around all of the electrical components. Should you receive a call while streaming tunes, it’ll gently pause the music until your call is done, and afterwards it’ll resume automatically. The S9-HD’s proper successor will be landing in Best Buy locations starting October 24th for $ 79.99.
