Samsung Galaxy S Blaze Q leaks in August 15thdated press shot, keeps terrible name

Remember Samsung’s Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch for Sprint? Think that name was a mouthful? Well right here’s a press shot of– anticipate it– Samsung’s T699 aka. Galaxy S Blaze Q, a QWERTY slider for T-Mobile that’s been passed in the past. Beyond the horrible name, the August 15th reference on the display appears to confirm the previous launch date rumors. Spec-wise, the phone is expected to pack a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage. There’s additionally mention of 1080p video recording capture and a 720p display– the latter being unlikely in light of the big quantity of bezel surrounding the screen (Samsung’s smallest HD Super AMOLED display is 4.65-inches across). Our guess is that T-Mobile’s merely complementing Samsung’s existing Galaxy S Blaze 4G with a mid-range QWERTY slider, but we’ll discover soon enough.

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G review

Image

Maybe you’ve noticed, maybe you haven’t, but the Galaxy S 4G no longer exists at T-Mobile. Just one year ago, it replaced the Vibrant — the carrier’s first Galaxy S handset — and now the Galaxy S 4G has similarly felt the cold embrace of Father Time. Fear not, though, because it has a replacement, and it’s really quite admirable. Folks, let us introduce you to the Galaxy S Blaze 4G. If you’re curious about the rationale behind the Blaze nomenclature, its meaning is actually two-fold: first, it’s capable of accessing T-Mobile’s speedy HSPA+ 42Mbps network, and second — get this — it packs the same dual-core processor as T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II.

Despite these two enhancements, the Galaxy S Blaze 4G stops short of encroaching on premium territory — instead preferring to straddle the line between middle-of-the-road and high-end. Similarly, it retails for $ 200 on contract, before a $ 50 mail-in rebate. With such a lofty price, it’ll undoubtedly instigate comparisons to the Galaxy S II and, soon enough, the HTC One S. Most importantly, though, is the question of whether the Blaze 4G can stand on its own as a quality smartphone; we’re fully aware that prices change, and a vexing purchase today could become a wise decision tomorrow. With this in mind, join us after the break as we explore the latest that Samsung has to offer for T-Mobile.

Galaxy S Blaze 4G Lights Up T-Mobile Shelves On March 28

Blaze

Word of the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G first broke around the time Team TechCrunch was roaming the cavernous halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center at CES, but at the time T-Mobile wasn’t feeling very talkative about release dates.

The mangenta-hued carrier seems to have opened up a bit during the intervening months though, as they’ve taken to Twitter earlier today to announce that their latest Samsung handset will hit their sales channels on March 28. If you’re really lucky (or willing to hop in a car and take some chances), you could snag a Blaze 4G even earlier than that, as some stores will be selling the device a week early.

You’d be forgiven for not remembering the Galaxy S Blaze 4G — between all of the nifty new gadgets on display at CES and MWC, a mid-range T-Mobile handset like the Blaze can slip though the cracks pretty easily. Still, while a Galaxy S III this thing ain’t, one could certainly do worse than eye up a device with a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor, 3.97-inch Super AMOLED display, and support for T-Mobile’s 42Mbps HSPA+ network.

For better or worse you’ll still have to deal with Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread and Samsung’s hallmark TouchWiz UI but hey, it’s not like the market is swimming in Android 4.0 devices yet. At $ 150 (after a $ 50 mail-in rebate, ugh) the Blaze 4G runs squarely in the middle of the T-Mobile pack, and while it looks to be a solid choice for anyone sitting on an upgrade, pulling the trigger on a phone like this still takes some consideration.

A few more bucks nets you a proper Galaxy S II (in white even!), while a few dollars less yields up some solid-if-dated hardware like the HTC Sensation. It’s a perpetually tough call for prospective phone shoppers — should they take a plunge on a mid-range handset now, or wait for prices on high-end devices to drop?

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G making its way into T-Mobile stores in March for $150

We heard about Samsung’s Galaxy S Blaze 4G — a device that wins second place for longest name behind the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch — last month at CES, but details were incredibly scarce. Of course, leave it to T-Mobile and Sammy to toss in a few extra nuggets in the lead-up to Mobile World Congress in the midst of so many other product announcements. It turns out that the Blaze 4G will be making its official debut on the carrier sometime near the end of March for $ 150 on a two-year commitment. The device sports a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 CPU, 4-inch Super AMOLED panel, 5MP rear camera with 720p video capture, a 1.3MP front-facing shooter and — shocker — Android 2.3. It also supports 42Mbps HSPA+. Definitely sounds like a healthy mix of 2010 and 2011, no doubt. Want more details? We’ve got the press release after the break ready and waiting for you.

Dell Blaze spotted

Dell is cooking up some more Android devices and the latest to make its debut is the Android-powered Dell Blaze. The Blaze looks like an entry-level phone with features to match. We don’t have many details, but sadly we do know that this device is apparently running Android 1.5.

We can only hope that Dell will up their game and offer some devices with more recent versions of Android. Come on Dell, the Dell Streak was released with just Android 1.6.
