Samsung SGH-i337 hits FCC with AT&T LTE bands, fits the GS 4 profile

Samsung SGHi337 hits FCC with AT&T LTE bands, unlikely it's not the GS 4

Fast payday loans For Every One

We have to be skeptical when new devices arrive at the FCC without photos or a blinking sign that says “I Am AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S 4.” But even doubters can connect the dots in this case and declare that a certain Samsung SGH-i337 that the FCC just waved through is likely that very model. Why? First off, it’s carrying a certain LTE band 17 used exclusively by AT&T in the US. Secondly, the dimensions line up perfectly with what we recently got our hands on at Samsung’s recent Galaxy S 4 phone-a-palooza. Finally, we already saw a device packing the same model number on UAProf, a normally reliable source that revealed a 1,080 x 1920 screen and “ARM11″ Exynos processor. Since it’s unlikely the carrier has another unannounced 1080p model coming from Samsung, those coveting an AT&T GS 4 can probably start warming up their wallets.

T-Mobile says its iPhone 5 has HSPA+ on AWS bands, HD Voice

TMobile John Legere

We all know the iPhone is at last reaching T-Mobile– but exactly what you may not know is that it won’t just be a one-for-one port of the existing hardware. Carrier CEO John Legere just mentioned that the T-Mobile iPhone 5 will support HSPA+ on the AWS (1,700 MHz band) in addition to ready-made LTE support. If you roam beyond an LTE protection area, you’ll still have up to 42Mbps data on Magenta’s network. There’s more: it’ll also support the exact same HD Voice calling that went nationwide in January.

Custom His And Hers Star Wars Themed Wedding Bands

star-wars-wedding-bands-1.jpg

There are two different sets of custom his and hers Star Wars weddings bands ($ 400 and up depending on the metal and stones used) designed by Etsy seller Swankmetalsmithing. Me? I’m going to get my wedding band TATTOOED on so the only way to remove it is to cut off the finger. Which I’ll inevitably have to do after the woman leaves me. Then I’ll have no choice but to tell everyone I lost the finger in a woodworking accident. I’ll probably go ahead and cut my middle finger and pinky off too just to make it more believable. “Smart.” *tapping head* I’m a thinker.

Hit the jump for a couple more shots of this design and the other.

European Commission clears 2GHz bands for LTE use by 2014, claims 4G pipes wider than the US

European Union flags

European LTE implementations might simply be getting started, however the European Commission is currently trying to head off any sort of bandwidth problems at the pass. The company has actually bought that 120MHz of typically 3G-only spectrum around the 2GHz band needs to be reusable for LTE and other 4G networks by June 30th, 2014. Once the airwaves loosen up, the Commission sees its home continent having an advantage over an LTE-happy US: it expects to have as much as 1GHz of spectrum readily available for 4G, or possibly two times as much as exactly what Americans may claim. Officials are also mulling plans to repurpose additional slices of 2GHz spectrum that have not even been used for 3G and could possibly provide that much even more headroom. While an edge over the United States in bandwidth might not last after policy changes, it’s hard to complain if the EC step causes future smartphones whose downloads stay rapid.

Marching Band’s Tribute To Video Games Half-Time Show

video-game-marching-band.jpg

Note: It’s Columbo Day and I’m using it to take care of some real-life stuff. If I disappear all of a sudden in a cloud of smoke just know that I’m a powerful magician and will reappear tomorrow, possibly out of a top-hat.

This is The Ohio State University’s marching band performing a 9-minute tribute to video games as part of their half-time show. It’s got everything: Pokemon, Pac-Man, Tetris, Halo, Zelda, Super Mario Bros — you name it. “Borderlands?” No Borderlands. “Assassin’s Creed?” No Assassin’s Creed. “So not really everything.” I’m so glad I don’t have to know you in real life.

Hit the jump for the video. Really worthwhile running Epona after the 6:00 mark.

Texting Doesn’t Make Your Kids Dumb, Text Bands Do

Screen shot 2012-07-23 at 11.27.55 AM

I ’ m not one of those individuals who thinks that texting and tweeting is ruining youngsters ’ s ability to communicate. Texting and tweeting are the future of communication, so if children are discovering to keep it concise or feel more comfortable sending a text to their crush than making a call, I ’ m all for it. That ’ s not to state that this communication must be at the expenditure of all individual real-life communication, but it doesn ’ t mean that the children themselves are coming to be dumb due to the fact that they can keep a tweet under 140 characters.

The innovation companies are supplying children for this communication, on the additional hand, is absolutely becoming dumb. Take these Text Bands, for instance. Characteristic thinks that they can easily lure children into entering 10-character messages with the help of three buttons in a situation where messages can just be sent by a fist-bump or high-five.

These are $ 15 wristbands, indicating that all the specifications, featuring wireless, are seriously limited. That suggests that transmissions only work if the 2 bands are within a foot of each other. Past that, kids need to scroll with each letter of the alphabet utilizing a three-button food selection until they ’ ve filled in their message, with 10 characters max.

The problem is that the majority of kids have actually advanced far past this sort of gimmicky item. I ’ m sure a few of them will realize that Text Bands might benefit telling a friend a secret in a crowd, however so is a cell phone text. Two-year olds relax with an iPad and understand it just about right away. Children can generally identify ways to make a phone call or open up an app if you hand them your phone, even if they can easily ’ t read.

So to think that a little one, even a little one, would certainly be delighted with this is a joke. Text Bands are a toy and nothing even more, and in a world where children are getting mobile phone and smartphones at reasonably young ages, there is truly no place for something so low-cost and useless.

In any situation, the Text Bands are readily available at Hallmark shops today beginning at $ 14.99.

Qualcomm building babelfish chip to support multiple LTE bands

Qualcomm has revealed that it’s developing a new mobile radio that’ll operate across multiple LTE bands. While dreams of a cross-network standard were burned to the ground last July, the chip company revealed that the MSM-8960 will connect to three frequencies below 1GHz and four above. Qualcomm has said that the hardware will make its way into handsets by the end of the year at the same time it voiced opposition to the FCC’s plan to standardize the lower 700MHz band — something the smaller networks feel is necessary to prevent them being squeezed out by the big three.

Samsung SCH-R930 clears FCC with LTE bands, appears destined for US Cellular

Just yesterday, US Cellular let it be known on Twitter that its first LTE smartphone would arrive in April. Now, we’ve a rather strong indication that the device in question will be from Samsung, known internally as the SCH-R930. Previously outed by Pocketnow in September as a US Cellular device, the handset has just made its way through the FCC — and yes, it has LTE support in tow. While the Belief Network currently lacks a top-tier Samsung smartphone, the model number indicates we may be looking at a clone of the clone of the Galaxy Indulge. Here’s hoping for something a bit less stale.

HTC Flyer drops by the FCC again, this time with T-Mobile friendly GSM bands

The WiFi-only HTC Flyer tablet touched down last month without a peep from Carly and pals, but those magenta-tinted marketing plans are looking far more likely now — a GSM-based Flyer just hit the FCC with support for T-Mobile’s 3G bands. Visually and functionally, it looks like the same savory slate we saw tested in April, except with the all-important 1700MHz frequency commonly used by T-Mobile for HSPA cellular data. There’s still no word on pricing or availability, but we’ve heard Sprint’s EVO View 4G variant pegged for June 24th, and rumor has it that T-Mobile could release the Flyer on the sixth of next month.
