‘Avengers’ Alternate Opening

avengers-alternate-opening.jpg

Included with the soon-to-be-released Avengers Blu-ray, here’s an alternate, totally-different, Cobie Smulders-filled opening to Joss Whedon’s superhero blockbuster. On the one hand, it isn’t really necessary nor all that interesting a scene, but on the other hand, it does a great job quickly introducing the film’s central theme: flipped over cars. So hard to say if Whedon made the right call on this one. Decide for yourself below.

Now Let’s Go Kill A Dragon!: Fantasy Styled Avengers

fantasy-avengers-1.jpg

This is a series of Avengers characters (plus Loki) thought of in a dream style by DeviantARTist theDURRRRIAN ( and not theDURRRRPIAN, which a few of my frienemies like to call me since THEY ‘RE SHITBAGS– you know that you are!). As you can see, they absolutely resemble a crew capable of rescuing a princess or slaying a dragon. Or, and I’m simply throwing this out there, washing and detailing my car. Appeared on– somebody composed ‘PEEN MASTER’ in the dust on my back window!

Marvel’s The Avengers Blu-ray hits September 25th, iOS second screen app this month (video)

Marvel's The Avengers Bluray combo pack hits September 25th, iOS second screen app this month video

We do not have any type of even more details yet on the 10-disc Marvel Cinematic Universe set that popped up on Amazon a month ago, but Disney and Marvel have revealed we can anticipate Marvel’s The Avengers on Blu-ray September 25th. It will definitely be delivering in the typical selection of combo packs: 4 disc with Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital copy and digital download or 2 disc Blu-ray and DVD combo for $ 50 / $ 40 MSRP (respectively, Amazon presently notes the four disc set for $ 35). Exactly what will arrive initially this month however, is The Avengers Initiative: A Marvel Second Screen App, offered on iPad and, for the 1st time, iPhone. Marvel is appealing bi-weekly content updates till September when it moves up to regular updates of character profiles, interactive comics and even more prior to the movie even comes in. Extras on disc will certainly feature 7.1 DTS-HD MA audio, a gag reel, behind the scenes looks with director Joss Whedon and cast, erased scenes and more. Check the press release after the break for the full listing, plus a brand-new trailer for the Blu-ray.

Avengers Blu-ray preorders listed, including massive 10-disc Marvel Cinematic Universe set

Avengers Bluray preorders listed, including massive 10disc Marvel Cinematic Universe set

If you left the theater after watching Marvel / Disney / Joss Whedon’s The Avengers ready to buy the Blu-ray disc as soon as it hit then get your credit cards ready. As Blu-ray.com notes, Amazon has listings for both a 2-disc Blu-ray edition and a 4-disc Blu-ray 3D version, but the one that’s caught our eye is the just updated listing for Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled. A ten disc set, it has every movie in this chapter of Marvel flicks — Avengers, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man 1 & 2, The Incredible Hulk — with 3D copies where applicable plus collectible packaging and a bonus “The Phase One Archives” disc. The only pic of the casing we have is the promo image shown above which hints at a replica of Nick Fury’s Cosmic Cube suitcase from the movie, but more information is promised to be revealed July 15th. Until then you’ll have to decide of $ 153 ($ 25~ per movie) is worth it for the set, or maybe take this time to finance it by selling off your existing copies on Craigslist. Your choice.

[Thanks, Victor]

TC/Gadgets Webcast: The Avengers, Nerf, And Kickstarter Tips

Screen shot 2012-05-18 at 2.56.01 PM

Is The Avengers worth your money? Do the disc-blasting Nerf guns leave a welt? How do you pull a Pebble and reign in $ 3 million on Kickstarter?

In this week’s TC/Gadgets webcast, we answer all this and more. John and Matt argue over the value in one of this summer’s tent pole movies, The Avengers. John finds it boring, while Matt thinks “it’s fun for everyone.” And while I can’t say I’ll be buying a ticket to The Avengers any time soon, I can say with great certainty that I’ll be at one of the opening day showings of Prometheus.

Who doesn’t love space, right?

The gang also discusses Nerf’s disc-blasting guns, and how they may or may not be used at this weekend’s Disrupt Hackathon. Last year we saw a raucous group of hackers start an all-out war with bungee darts. None of the TC editorial staff was injured (nor were the hackers), but this year we’ll at least have some Nerf Vortex and Vulcan guns slung over our shoulders. You know… Just in case.

In the words of the recent Game Of Thrones trailers, “War is coming.”

Finally, but likely most importantly, Matt, Chris, John and I offer up some tips as to what we cover on Kickstarter. Matt is done with iPad cases, and though I echo the sentiment, I’ll probably be more willing to make exceptions than he. John prefers the “little tweaks” to things we already use and enjoy, like the automatic bike light that knows when you’re moving.

I encourage a strong video, as marketing is a huge driver of any business. But the geeky stuff has its place too — Chris thoroughly enjoyed the electron microscope project that significantly reduced the cost of looking at really, really tiny things.

I Am Iron Man: Rock Version Of The Avengers Theme

rock-avengers-theme.jpg

This is a video of Avengers fan TheHumanTim performing a one-man rock version of the Avengers movie theme, with a little tribute to the animated series and Iron Man thrown in for good measure. I’ve actually been listening to it all day, which might explain why I’ve been so full of angst-y rage. Hulk smash! *tries to crush beer can on head, collapses* “You do realize that was an unopened soup can, don’t you?” I was caught up in the moment, okay? Oooooh, clam chowder.

Hit the jump for the video, but be sure to check out the rest of his videos for a bunch of other rock themes, including Jurassic Park and TMNT.

You Look Good In Tights: Dinos Dressed At The Avengers

dino-avengers-1.jpg

Not to be outdone by these Marvel themed dinosaur superheroes, here’s a small series of dinos dressed as The Avengers by Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Jar Jar Binks designer (GET HIM!) Terryl Whitlatch. I guess he’s still trying to make up for that. Unfortunately, there is no making up for that. Still, I do like these guys. A LOT. Now are you thinking what I’m thinking? “Probably not.” I’m gonna feign like I’m injured, them jump up and kiss them when they come to rescue me! “Um, GW — you ever heard the story about the boy who cried wolf?” Haha, no — were there dinos in it?

Hit the jump for the rest of the set.

The Avengers: A True Tale Of Bad Customer Service

ekIs3

With all this talk of 360-degree customer service and Zappos ninjas who help babies out of burning buildings while taking orders for clogs, it’s nice to remember that for every heartwarming tale of customer satisfaction there is a dude like Paul Christoforo.

The tale begins with a controller accessory. It’s called the Avonger en-kontrol (my misspelling) and it’s some kind of octopus that helps you press more buttons on your game controller. We wrote it up in February 2011 so you can check it out there. A quick web search will bring up the actual product. I’m not about to give them any Google Juice.

Plenty of people pre-ordered and waited patiently for the devices to ship. One customer, Dave, emailed the company with a question:

I ordered 2 of the upcoming PS3 controllers (invoice xxxxxxxxx—Nov 3, 2011). Any chance of getting an update of when these items will ship? I’m not really happy about being forced to pay upfront then have the advertised date of “Early December” be completely missed without any sort of update on availability. I really need one of them for a X-mas present as well. Anyways, looking forward to finally using one of these bad boys. Thanks and happy holidays.

-Dave

The “marketing guru” Paul Christoforo (who runs SEO expert site OceanMarketing (amazing, right?)) eventually gets into a heated Internet exchange with Dave (read it all on Penny Arcade when it comes back up) and ends his tirade with this gem of social media marketing done right (warning, NSFW language):

LOL Thanks for the Free PR I know the Editor N Chief of Kotaku , IGN , Engadget I’ll be meeting them at CES .The noise complaint was for people high up on the food chain in a corporate world of real estate you have no clue about. Thanks for the Rice Rocket Compliment too love me some motorcycle . Send that over to Engadget you look like a complete moron swearing and sending your customer service complaints to a magazine as if they will post it or even pay attention do you think you’re the first or the last what are they going to do demand us to tell you were your shipment is or ask for a refund on your behalf … Really … Welcome to the Internet ? Son Im 38 I wwebsite as on the internet when you were a sperm in your daddys balls and before it was the internet, thanks for the welcome to message wurd up. Grow up you look like a complete child bro. I Don’t have my controller so im gonna cry to the world … Really ?? Hey take that free time and do something more productive. All you had to do was check the like everyone else , people have inquired but you’re the douchiest of them all J

To all our pre-order customers looking for information on the status of their orders after a busy couple of months The PS3 Avengers are on their way from our Manufacturing plant overseas. We are aware that everyone is anticipating having their Avengers under their Christmas Tree and were doing our best to get these orders shipped out as fast as possible. Oh and FYI When a street date gets pushed by a publisher on a video game you pre ordered do you cry to them too ?

You just got told bitch … welcome to the real internet check kotaku in 2 weeks when they are reviewing free PS3 Avengers we send them as well as G4 and all the other majors hell yeah , don’t forget to check Amazon, gamestop.com, play n trade , Myers , Frys and a ton of other local stores coming your way you think you speak for billions son your just a kid you speak for yourself no one cares what you think that’s why were growing and moving 20-50 thousand controllers a month. We do value our customers but sometimes we get children like you we just have to put you in the corner with your im stupid hat on. See you at CES , E3 , Pax East ….? Oh wait you have to ask mom and pa dukes your not an industry professional and you have no money on snap you just got told.

If you tl;dred that, here is one of the pertinent points:

Son Im 38 I wwebsite as on the internet when you were a sperm in your daddys balls and before it was the internet, thanks for the welcome to message wurd up.

This is the 38-year-old marketing manager and LinkedIn User (and presumably president of a company that is apparently trying to make a living selling marketing accessories) responding to a customer. I doubt this strategy is in the Amazon CSR handbook.

The fact that I’m writing about this feeds directly into Christoforo’s sense that any PR is good PR, but I assure you that’s not the case. Battles against Internet tag teams that involve Kotaku, SomethingAwful, and Reddit rarely end well and products built (or marketed) by petulant 38-year-old former real estate salesmen rarely, if ever, ship. It’s easy to build a buzz on the Internet, and it’s just as easy to kill it in a few keystrokes. Wurd up.
