Lockheed Martin is building a facility in Australia for tracking space debris

Space debris is a serious threat to satellites, and Lockheed Martin is now teaming up to further help keep satellites safe as they orbit around the planet. The firm is partnering with Electro Optic Systems (EOS) to build a facility in Australia that they say will increase the world’s ability to track space debris by 25 percent — if not more. EOS says that, so long as the debris is tracked, satellites will be able to avoid it, which will be increasingly important as the value of tech up in space continues to grow. Through the 2000s, EOS says that more than $ 400 billion  worth of equipment was sent up.

PlayStation 4 in Australia and Europe won’t get full PSN features at launch

PlayStation 4 What's New section

Sony has been rather successful in selling the PlayStation 4, to the point where the PlayStation Network has strained under the load. The company doesn’t want to worsen these problems with its PS4 launches in Australia, Europe and New Zealand, so it’s taking an unusual step: for the first few days after release in these areas, it’s disabling friend activity in both the What’s New and content info sections. Activity will come back once the initial frenzy is over, Sony says. The decision won’t make a big impact on gameplay when multiplayer and other core features will be available on day one, but it may catch a few players off-guard.

BBC Worldwide to offer first-run TV to Australia through Foxtel in mid-2014

BBC Worldwide offers firstrun TV to Australia through a premium Foxtel channel

Australians have long had access to the BBC, although an existing four-channel schedule on Foxtel won’t completely satisfy fans of British TV when it’s just a sliver of the material they understand. BBC Worldwide should be closing some of that (figurative) distance, though, with plans to provide a premium channel with Foxtel’s network. The as-yet-unnamed service will give Aussies a chance at first-run BBC shows about a year before they ‘d broadcast over the air there. and without advertisements. (Respectable for not having a UK TV license.) The BBC material will naturally be offered in HD, in addition to for mobile streaming with Foxtel Go. About the only drawback to the channel beyond its premium nature is the mid-2014 start date, but that could be a small sacrifice for identified Anglophiles and ex-pats.
