I’m Already On My Way: Astronomers Confirm A Planet Similar To Doctor Who’s Home Planet Gallifrey

dr-who-gallifrey-discovered.jpg

In news that’s sure to excite everyone other than people who aren’t super into Physician Who, astronomers have actually just revealed the discovery of a planet very like Gallifrey, the home world of Doctor Who and the Time Lords. Well hot damn. ♫ My bags are packed, I’m prepared to go, I’m standing right here outside your door, I cannot wait to wake you up and state ‘Go pass away.’ ♫

According to an article in the Register, NASA came throughout exactly what it calls a “transiting circumbinary multi-planet system” – in layman’s speak, “2 worlds orbiting two suns” – utilizing its Kepler planet-hunting telescope, and the Register compares to “Doctor Who’s Time Lord homeworld [of] Gallifrey – or additionally the luxury-planet-builders’ planet Magrathea [from] The Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy”!

The Register reports the lead author of the research, Jerome Orosz – associate teacher of astronomy at San Diego State University – as saying, “Each earth transits over the primary star, giving unambiguous evidence that the planets are genuine.”.

Truthfully, it’s specifying where I don’t care if a newly discovered earth resembles one from a sci-fi collection I’m into or not, as long as its habitable, I desire to go. Hell, even if it’s just BARELY habitable, I still wish to go. Besides, that’ll help minimize frustrating space tourists. “Telling the truth, he is.” See? Yoda understands what I’m discussing.

Thanks to Lisa, who’s currently purchased home there and intends on having a residence developed as quickly as there’s a such thing as a decent intergalactic building company.

Mmmm: Milk That Tastes Like It’s Already Had Cereal In It

cow-wow-cereal-milk.jpg

Cow Wow Cereal Milk is a line of milk that tastes like it’s already had cereal marinating in it. They come in six different flavors representing six different kinds of cereal, including: Chocolate Chip Cathy, Fruity Trudy, Honey Beatrice, Cinny Minny, Peanut Butter Bessie, and Frosty Francine. Can you guess which kind of cereal corresponds to each milk? I bet you can — you’re a smart cookie. Just not a particularly good tasting one. Plus crumbly. Dammit, are these raisins?

Thanks to PYY, who agrees the best cereal milk is made after a bowl of Cocoa Pebbles, no arguing.

Japanese mobile boss claims he’s already patented the tech inside Google Glass

CEOh no he didn't! Japanese mobile boss claims he's already patented the tech inside Google Glass

Patent filings, we don’t take so seriously. One of Japan’s richest men, with the potential to call on an army of lawyers to defend what he claims is his invention, we probably ought to. Masayoshi Son, the billionaire (and philanthropic) CEO of SoftBank, has given a two-hour speech to his shareholders about his technological predictions for the next 30 years, and about halfway through he describes a familiar idea: augmented reality glasses that can understand what a person is saying and provide subtitles as a visual overlay. At one point, he specifically mentions protecting the concept:

“By the way, we’ve already taken out a patent on this — translation glasses with captions.” (1:22:49 in the video at the source link.)

We think we may have found the patent application in question, submitted in 2010 by SoftBank Mobile Corp. It does show a translation function similar — but not totally identical — to what’s been shown off in a recent Project Glass promo video, in which a guy translated his own words using Google’s specs. In any case, the whole patent system is so esoteric that it’s impossible to predict what ideas will clash and what won’t, but it’s worth bearing in mind how Masayoshi Son first became rich: he sold a translation device patent to Sharp for $ 1 million. What are the odds on that?

Already Ordered: Rollie, The Egg-On-A-Stick Cooker

rollie-eggmaster-egg-cooker.jpg

This is the $ 30 Rollie Eggmaster. You just crack an egg into it, and then a cylindrically cooked egg rises from the middle in a couple minutes. Add chopped vegetables and sausage and a stick while it’s cooking to make it an omelet on a stick! The possibilities are practically endless. I bet this is the sort of thing everybody in the 1950′s imagined when they closed their eyes and thought about the future.

Hit the jump for a worthwhile commercial of the magic happening.

Concern by Sarah: When is the google phone pertaining to Verizon Wireless and did it already pertain to Verizon Wireless?
Did the google phone pertained to Verizon Wireless? Is it the HTC ANDROID ERIS and/or the MOTOROLA ANDROID? Exist a number of versions for the google phone? Is the google phone various for each mobile phone network? Exactly how much is it? I heard that is was coming to Verizon Wireless in the spring however I am uncertain. If you understand anything, please response. I truly like to know when the google phone is concerning Verizon Wireless and if it came out already.

Best answer:

Answer by ehrenAt this time the HTC Eris and Motorola Android are the only Android based phones for Verizon and run the current versions of the Android OS. The original Google phone, the T-Mobile HTC G1, will probably never be released to an additional provider due to the fact that it can only run the first generation Android OS. Include your very own response in the remarks!

Vine’s friend-finding feature already blocked by Facebook

Vine's friend-finding feature already blocked by Facebook

Facebook undoubtedly isn’t curious about welcoming new social media players, and not long after stopping Yandex’s Marvel app from combing its priceless records, it’s chosen to obstruct the friend-finding feature in Twitter’s Vine video embed app. Secondhanding the “find people” option in Vine now presents users with a mistake message, basically eliminating that labor-saving option. Facebook, as all of us know, is well-known for keeping opponents’ noses out of its data source, and let’s not forget it pulled Instagram Card support from Twitter last year. We’ve called the social network for remark, and will update you if we get a feedback.

Archos 101 Titanium pops up in FCC docs, confirms what we already know

Archos

You’d think bigger (screen size) would mean better (resolution). But not for Archos’ recently announced 10.1-inch Titanium tablet. No, this particular tab, which just surfaced at the FCC, actually sports a comparatively middling 1,280 x 800 IPS display — when contrasted with the Retina-like screen on the 9.7-inch model, anyway. We’ve already gotten hands-on with the Android 4.1 slate back at CES last week, so there’s no real surprise where specs are concerned: dual-core 1.6GHz Rockchip CPU, quad-core GPU, WiFi b/g/n and a 3.7V Li-ion battery. The main takeaway here? Well, you could be seeing it hit US shores sometime soon, just don’t expect any carrier affiliation.

iPhone 5 swings through first round of Chinese approvals, may have un

Wireless device accreditations can easily often distribute a bit even more of a business’s working plan than meant. Case in point: a China Compulsory Certification for the iPhone 5. The expected A1429 variation has been offered initial clearance on its method to China Unicom, but there’s also a formerly unseen, CDMA2000-based A1442 iPhone with a similar rubber stamp. With the iPhone 4S currently on the market for a CDMA-only China Telecom, it does not take much to suggest that the A1442 exemplifies Apple’s taller, a lot faster smartphone already prepared for the very same provider. Neither edition of the iPhone 5 is imminent without the equally essential network and radio clearances. Getting the ball rolling on numerous variants so right after the initial launch, nevertheless, raises the chance that we’ll see the iPhone 5 on even more than one Chinese company quicker than the iPhone 4S took to arrive the last time around.
