Aaron Swartz perished a week back. A public memorial service in New York City will be held later today. You may have read much about Swartz’s life in the interim, consisting of his work at a young age on Reddit and the RSS spec, his political activism, and the overzealous prosecution that might have helped in his suicide. Question by Catharina J: Whenever i charge my LG Ally (android) it will randomly switch to the clock but it didnt do that before How c?
I have an LG Ally and whenever I start to charge it, it will randomly go to the clock page about every 20ish seconds. Before, when I would charge it, it would charge but it would still let me use it normally and would never go to the clock randomly. I have had my phone for about 6 months and it is also an android. Can anyone help? Thanks guys!

The LG Ally has a Docking station that it can be used with that charges it and hooks it to computer. This dock plugs into the same port that you charge your phone through. When docked a small magnet inside the phone next to the charging port reacts to the metal plate on the dock to tell the phone to enter its “Alarm Clock” screen. Your phone thinks for some reason that it has been placed in the docking station every time you put it on charge, so it would seem to me either you are charging your phone on something metal that the magnet is picking up or the magnetic switch in your phone is stuck. You may be able to unstick it by hitting the charging port on a hard surface, lightly though you don’t want to break your phone.

LG didn’t hold back when it came time to market its Ally, but was a tie-in with one of the summer’s biggest blockbusters really enough? We found some rather unforgivable flaws during our testing, but that’s honestly beside the point — we’re here to hear about your thoughts on the device. Priced initially at just $100 on contract, it was (and still is, to an extent) one of the best deals going for an Android-based smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard, but has it really lived up to your expectations? Are you wishing you had held out a bit longer? Is the keyboard really a winner? How do you like / dislike the UI overlay? How’s it handle when held left-handed? You remember those Android 2.1-powered LG Allys that were supposed to go on sale with Big Red earlier this week? Yeah, well, they didn’t, and Verizon’s site is still showing them as pre-orders. We’re not sure what’s going on there, but pre-orders are being extended through the 26th with sales commencing on the 27th; folks that have already pre-ordered the phone are apparently getting emails explaining the situation and letting them know that they’ll be “the first to receive the phone upon initial availability on or after May 27th.” The “or after” part there seems to be giving them a loophole in case they need another delay — so this could be a last-minute software issue, supply problems, some sort of wacky marketing stunt, or a stunning heist involving the theft of every Ally that has been imported to the United States thus far. Your guess?
