Conceptual Star Wars Episode VII Poster With Aged Cast

This is the conceptual Star Wars Episode VII movie poster created by illustrator Adam Schickling imaging the cast from the original trilogy all grown up. It looks like Adam was pretty kind to Carrie Fisher, because that is NOT what I remember her looking like last. Chewbacca? He looks the same as the first day he and Han Solo ever met. Billy Dee Williams? That handsome devil makes me want to go chug an ice-cold Colt 45. WHICH I MIGHT.
Thanks to PYY, who agrees Colt 45 is actually pretty terrible but Billy Dee Williams makes it sound like the best damn drink on earth. That’s it, I’m biking to the beer store.![]()

‘Father of digital imaging’ Bryce Bayer dies aged 83
Bryce Bayer, former Eastman Kodak scientist, and inventor of the Bayer Filter — found with most modern digital image sensors — has sadly recently passed. Bayer’s work with Kodak left an indelible mark on almost every digital image you see today, both figuratively, and literally. His eponymous color filter, developed in 1976, used a mosaic layout of red green and blue filters that enables light sensors to create full color images. The design imitates the way the human eye perceives color, with twice as much green as red or blue, and the resulting output is then interpreted with “demosaicing” algorithms to produce an accurate, RGB image. Bayer’s work also included significant contributions to other areas of digital photography, including storage, enhancement and printing. Bayer died on November 13th in Bath, Maine aged 83. So, next time you’re enjoying your digital memories, spare a thought for the man who helped make them all possible

91% Of Kids Aged 2-17 Playing Video Games, Says Report
It’s a little-known fact that the phrase “the children are our future” was actually originally uttered by a gaming company executive. A very forward-thinking person, indeed, seeing past both the gaming world’s early for-kids branding and the hardcore face it would wear during the early 2000s. He saw all the way to the point where gaming was so unavoidable as a cultural force that even toddlers would be unable to avoid its draw.
A study by NPD Group has determined that around 91% of kids aged 2-17 play games (and not just tag and such), comprising a group some 64 million children strong. If that isn’t a market, I don’t know what is.
The biggest growth was seen in mobile devices, not surprisingly, but the jump is remarkable: in 2009 only 8% of kids in this range were doing mobile gaming. Now, that number is 38%. Furthermore, the biggest growth has been seen in the 2-5 age range. More kids are playing more games, some before they can speak properly.
Again, the growth isn’t necessarily a surprise, but it’s always a little bit of a shock when you see the numbers. There’s no argument any more that games do not make up a significant and growing part of popular culture. As these gamer kids grow up, that part is only going to become larger.
This trend has a lot to do with smartphones, I would wager. Not only do many parents have apps for their kids to play with on their iPads and phones, but more and more kids in elementary and middle school have phones capable of doing more than making calls and sending texts. Essentially it’s been a huge stealth distribution of low-cost gaming consoles.
The upsurge in young people gaming, especially in mobile, will probably be followed by a software rush. Zynga is probably in the best position to take advantage, being for many kids a more relevant gaming platform than Nintendo or Sony.
The full report is available for purchase if you’re interested in more than the highlights.

Microsoft slams post-PC idea, claims “PC isn’t even middle aged yet”

Microsoft rejects the idea of a “post-PC” era of technology.
The company is labelling the current era as the “PC Plus” realm where PCs are surrounded by new devices designed for a specific niche purpose. The software giant’s chief of communications, Frank Shaw, revealed the company’s feelings in a blog post on Friday. “I’ve seen a resurgence of the term “post” applied to the PC in a number of stories including The Wall Street Journal, PC World and the Washington Post,” said Shaw. He proceeds to explain that it’s human nature for people to like simple and straightforward “something is a foo-’killer’ stories.” Shaw explains things aren’t that clear cut and simple in the technology world. “eReaders, Tablets, Smartphones, Set top boxes, aren’t PC killers,” states Shaw. “But instead are complementary devices. They are each highly optimized to do a great job on a subset of things any PC can also do.”
Shaw argues that PCs do certain tasks in a unique way and “aren’t going away” as they change rapidly to do the same things that companion devices (like eReaders and Tablets etc) do.
“I’ll be the first to admit that these new “non-PC” objects do a great job at enabling people to communicate and consume in innovative and interesting ways. That’s not surprising, because they were expressly designed for that purpose. But even their most ardent admirers will not assert that they are as good as PCs at the first two verbs, create and collaborate. And that’s why one should take any reports of the death of the PC with a rather large grain of salt. Because creating and collaborating are two of the most basic human drives, and are central to the idea of the PC. They move our culture, economy and world forward. You see their fingerprints in every laboratory, startup, classroom, and community.”
Shaw rounds up his thoughts by promising a range of powerful devices that will connect to cloud services and make it easier to create, communicate, collaborate and consume information. “So while it’s fun for the digerati to pronounce things dead, and declare we’re post-PC, we think it’s far more accurate to say that the 30-year-old PC isn’t even middle aged yet, and about to take up snowboarding.”

Vivitar Tries To Sell Its Last Film Cameras To The Aged
It’s a stinking world cause there’s no film cameras any more. It’s a stinking world because it lets the young get on to the old like you’ve done with your photos stuck on computers and printers that are hard to use. Oh, it’s no world for an old man any longer. What kind of a world is it at all? Men on the moon and men spinning around the earth and there’s not no attention paid to going to Drug Emporium to pick up your photos no more. Oh dear dear land I fought for thee.
