What, you didn’t think those games appeared on Xbox Live through some act of magic, did you? No, they’re the product of insanely small teams working insanely long hours, at the risk of their well-being, social lives and, in some cases, personal hygiene, in order to bring you a downloadable break from Call of Duty. Indie Game: The Movie is a beautifully shot, occasionally heartwarming and perpetually fascinating look at the intersection of art and technology currently being explored by indie game developers, focusing on the creators of Fez, Braid and Super Meat Boy.

We managed to get a sneak peak of the Sundance documentary, courtesy of filmmakers James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot, who appeared on the most recent episode of the Engadget Show — and now you can join in on the fun: the film is getting a worldwide web release on June 12th, by way of iTunes, Steam and the official movie site. We knew Best Buy planned to close 50 of its big box retail locations by the end of its 2013 fiscal year, and now (just days after Mike Mikan took the CEO-reigns from Brian Dunn) it’s detailed all of the stores that’ll be getting the boot. As it stands, two locations have already been shut down, with six others set to close before the year is out — and the company hopes to clear out the remaining 42 before May 12th. Employees at most of the stores were informed of the news this weekend, and despite the impending closures, the company says it’ll try to re-position them within the company or offer up severance packages. Past that, Best Buy is also reaching out to the customers of these stores, noting that they’ll still have other nearby locations to choose from — try-before-you-buy online shoppers rejoice. There’s still no specific word about the 100 Best Buy Mobile stores it hopes to setup, but more information will be forthcoming later in the year. Are you a smartphone user with an itchy trigger finger? Listen up. Rockstar Games has announced that the one and only Max Payne will begin terrorizing your iOS and Android devices in the very near future. The wares will be available for Apple-branded gear (iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S, along with the iPod touch 4 and all iPad iterations) on April 12th, and Google’s implements two weeks later on the 26th. Max Payne Mobile is promising to deliver HD graphics, high resolution textures and exclusive content via the company’s Social Club service to your miniaturized screen. Rockstar did not elaborate on which Android sets would be supported, but promised to publish a full list “in the coming weeks.” Limber up those thumbs, charge up that handset and get ready to lay waste to… pretty much anything that moves.

Verizon’s got some news for those of you looking for a travel-ready LTE hotspot. The carrier is set to sell the Novatel Jetpack 4G LTE MiFi 4620L on April 12th at a price of $ 49.99. Of course, you’ll need a two-year contract to get that price, which reflects a $ 50 mail-in rebate. Contracts start at 5GB a month for $ 50. The 4620L doesn’t take a drastic departure from recent MiFi designs, but it does add an OLED display that makes getting system info and navigating device options much easier. While the hotspot runs on Verizon’s LTE network, it’ll connect up to 10 Wi-Fi devices at 3G speeds in over 125 countries.
