New Google Maps on G1

Google’s turn-by-turn navigation that generated so much buzz recently is bad ass and available exclusively on Verizon’s Droid phone. Now Thats no so Bad Ass. But those of use that know how to "root" and don’t mind hacking around with your G1 you can put Google Maps Navigation on a rooted G1.
The rumor is that your G1 must be running the latest Cyanogen ROM (and here’s the wiki guide to installing it). I have a MyTouch 3G so I will need to either wait or do some additional hacking my self… I will probably wait.
Gizmodo recommends a batch file that does the dirty work for you, including installation of the Maps/Navigation app from Android 2.0, which you can get at this thread.
