Is there a higher resolution HDTV coming out soon?
Question by Sticky: Is there a higher resolution HDTV coming out soon?
I was planning to buy a 50″ 1080P LCD in fall ’09; but with the speed technology advances nowadays, I’m thinking maybe I shouldn’t. I would hate to buy a 1080P and then a 1600P or similar comes out in 2010. I’m hearing things about this new OLED(organic light emitting diodes) that supposedly is the next highdef thing. How long will it be til the next step in high def arrives?

Buy it, no point in waiting, Samsung has just brought out a OLED TV but its still 1080p
There is talk of a Super HD TV but that probably won’t be out for a few years

Well, I think we’re there in terms of resultion for the next few decades. The technology that shows it (OLED or 120hz etc) is improving however so it never really hurts to wait. But hey prices are coming down and if you got a 360/PS3 and wanna see it shine well you know what you’ve gotta do.
If you don’t spend too much (as if it’s the last tv you’ll ever buy) then it won’t be too painful to get rid of it to upgrade down the road.
I do not think a higher resolution is coming anytime soon. First they would have to develope the HD camera to shoot in a higher resolution.
Current technolgy is still @ 1080P (Blu-Ray for example)
BUT….now you can get an even faster refresh rate of 240hz in 1080P instead of the once touted 120hz
There is nothing that close to market.
I’d expect the better than1080p sets to show up in 2014 as consumer sets, and major content by 2020.
In addition to sets, they need to work on content players and such, and everything now is invested in 1080p.
Hi Im a TV field engineer. This is a really cool area for me cuz i’ve seen this in the flesh so to speak…i’ve even got to fool around with this …get this, some major brand tv producer has prototype 4140p sets REALLY COOL you will be blown away when and if they decide to release this to the public.
