Inhabitat’s Week in Green: 30-foot ‘Buckyball’, Olympic stadium Lego replica and the ‘Mantabot’
Developing a robot that can stand and walk on two legs like a human is challenging enough– however what about a robotic that swims like a human? A team from Tokyo University of Innovation has developed the Swumanoid, a swimming robotic that’s based on the body of a human swimmer and can easily swim a selection of strokes. However why should a swimming robot have to appear like a person? The majority of fish swim a lot faster, more gracefully and more effectively than individuals. That’s why analysts from the University of Virginia are establishing the Mantabot, a robotic that looks and swims like a ray.
