Dish Hopper multi-room DVR in action (video)
The show floor opened, so we headed to the Dish booth to check out the Hopper multi-room DVR in action. Like the images from the press event, the UI looks a lot like the VIP 922 but with a few new screens to keep up with what the tuners are doing and for access to Primetime Anytime. We also learned along the way that outside of standard primetime hours, the DVR is limited to recording three shows at once.

To me, the PrimeTime Anytime feature on the Hopper is one of the coolest. I mean, I love watching certain shows that are on my locals, but since I am at DISH working a lot, I have little time to watch them unless I remember to set the recording myself, and I have one of the most horrible memories. It will be nice to come home, and turn on the TV and the Hopper, and just see shows that have already been recorded. With PTA enabled, I can record up to 6 HD shows at the same time! Best of all, it uses its own space on the DVR, so I have more than 250 hours of HD recording space at my disposal. I mean, with two terabytes of memory, I’m hardly thinking that I’ll need to use the Hopper’s ability to expand the memory by attaching an external hard drive. Anyways, I’ve had the opportunity to play with the Hopper and Joeys at work, and I have a feeling that it is going to make many people very happy!
