Unassisted Home birth of Lotus-Alaya Lavyndur Tookes 7/11/09
We hope you enjoy the visual story of the unassisted home birth our 5th child/1st daughter. I am a non working RN and former midwifery student. I had to unlearn all of my training as a professional, while tapping into my innate ability as a WOMAN to give birth to this beautiful soul. We did our own prenatal care which was common sense care…healthy eating, low stress, herbal teas…blah blah blah. We had no testing down during or before the birth. We did not check for dilation nor track progress, as our little lotus flower was destined to come on her own time. We remained in an upright position the entire labor, as gravity is a birthing mother’s friend. It also facilitated the baby’s own removal of mucous when she was born (it all came out her mouth as she came out). thus, there was no need for the invasive suctioning. I did not have someone telling me when and how to push. As Lotus and I danced, I knew at the moment that she knew, that it was time to push. After 2 pushes she crowned, I felt the intense “ring of fire”, one more natural push and her head was out. Last push….we had a baby! We did not capture the actual delivery…it was either Daddy grabs the camcorder or catch the baby, as she began crowning the moment we realize the camcorder was off. Because of this type of pushing, I did not tear. We also did a partial lotus birth, where you refrain from severing the umbilical cord. We weighed our baby at the post office. She has not and will not visit the …

@mayumiharris You are amazing! Such an inspiration! I share your philosophy. I had my babies at home with a midewife and we also didn’t vaccinate. If I had another I think I would do an unassisted home birth. Even the midwife can be somewhat invasive and cause me to go against my instinct.
Beautiful and so very inspiring!
So amazing this is how i want to have my 3rd child here soon I’ve been wanting an Unassisted Birth
I think this video will show my husband we can do it we had our first two with a midwife in her home basically on our own she really wasn’t around unless we asked for her help. Now i want this one to be just the two of us.
Lovely and amazing .
What an amazing video. Beautiful family. I am also planning a Lotus birth, and hopefully an unmedicated birth!
This is one of the most beautiful things I ever watched. I actually have tears in my eyes.
Shes so beautiful!
You made it a natural event–LOVE IT! Many blessings to all of you!
@mayumiharris Ah that’s a beautiful way to describe it.
So poetic! Take care, you have a really wonderful and blessed family.
can i ask you how you got such a wonderful husband lol im afraid my husband wont know what to do when i need him during birth when i get pregnant
My 4 month old niece, Zoey Michelle (nickname…Zo) has a dress like that
@kunstinflammen well the opposers and naysayers seem to make an issue of things. people like us are simply doing what nature intended. it’s the others who seem to prompt a political debate. the dance of birth was what i was referring to. (labor, her descent down, the rocking of my hips..etc.) thanks for the well wishes! same to you.
@kunstinflammen *weren’t so politicised
Personally I wish the issue of home births and vaccinations were so politicised but I guess I respect your decisions as it’s your life, just for me I would not do the same in the slightest. I wish you both the best! I don’t understand what you meant when you danced with Lotus though.
Congrats and all, but I still don’t understand why the birth had to be unassisted? I would consider having my baby naturally, at home, in water and everything but I would never dream of doing it without the presence of a medical expert. Your baby could have had all sorts of trouble or other unfortunate things that also happen “in nature” and by the time you want to get help it could be late. Why would you gamble with a child’s life if God gave us the common sense to be safe rather than sorry?
It’s so great that you got to share this. I had my 1st unassisted birth of my 4th child, then did it again 2 years later with my 5th, and then again with my 6th. I am so glad to see another woman that did what we did. It has brought our family so much more closer. We did the same as you about the ped. and the vaccines, too. Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl! Hope you Do have more children, God willing, and that He leads you down that path again as He did us. It’s SO worth it, isn’t it?
Our family appreciates the video. Good work. I sent a message to your inbox. Peace sister.
you have such a beautiful family
i really enjoyed your video.
@mayumiharris I don’t think that “yummi26″ (above comment) meant to offend you at all. I think they were just wanting to know because you are a nurse and maybe if you could educate US on why it’s not important to get vaccines, then we would probably consider doing the same for our children. Personally, I was going to ask a similar question. Anyway, your video was beautiful. God bless you and your family!
She is soooooooooooo beautiful. All of your children are just beautiful.
wow you stole my idea for using the songs from she’s having a baby one of my fav. movies of all times. lol well now i have to say im going to steal yours cuz my baby hasnt come yet but those songs were the ones i plan to use in my video/pic doc. i think that as a black women you are so strong to have done this as home i want to do the same but with this being my first child im scared. i dont want to be in the hospital hooked up to all kinds of things and have my baby cut and pinched and picked a
