Should I buy my daughter a Lamborghini Gallardo for her 18th birthday?

Question by Collegekid1001: Should I buy my daughter a Lamborghini Gallardo for her 18th birthday?
She is a senior at a private school here in LA many of the other students drive nice cars as well..
Do you think this is a wise decision?
She promised me that she will drive safely and not bring it to college in the fall.

Should you wake up and stop dreaming? I believe so.

  • oklatom:

Yes, by all means, and a platinum VISA card to keep her in fuel and repairs would be nice too, with the bill going to you of course.

  • quiet_vipassana:

Absolutely not. What purpose would giving a car like that to anyone, serve?

There’s no practicality, no function. It’s merely a toy. Many other people drive nice cars, but there’s not a thing that says your daughter needs to. The only thing it would say is that rather than anyone pay any attention to her own merits, she has ridiculously rich parents.

Buy her a Volvo, Honda, something else. Or even better, have her buy a car, herself.

no. i am proud that i paid for everything i got when i was in high school. it taught me alot. private school is enough to pay for.

It’s probably too late … but if you give your daughter everything – including a $ 250,000 car (not even sure how much this car is), then she’ll have no real incentive to strive for things on her own. The short answer is no you shouldn’t – but it’s your decision.

  • Mustanger:

Sure, why not. Surely any young lady would like to have a MODEL of one of those cars (which is probably all you can afford) for her birthday. Get a life fella. No need for prevarication on Y/A

    mmm i’m gunna say no
giving something really really nice like that can make them more dependant/spoiled
i believe people should work for what they get, at least really nice stuff like that. besides it looks better on your part if you get it yourself instead of your parents. you know?

If you had a history of choosing best answer I would have given you a very clear and thoughtful answer. However, since you don’t take the time to choose best answer or no best answer and instead decide to leave your questions up to the voters you don’t deserve my time, or anyone else’s for that matter. Thanks for the easy 2 points!

Promises are like pie crust: easily made, easily broken. Your daughter is going to have to live in the real world at some point. Will spoiling her now benefit her? If she is already living the life of a spoiled teen, which I assume she is, then you have to decide when to cut the wallet-strings. Now, when it could really benefit her to experience “life”, or when she’s 30 and moved back in because she tried to continue the lifestyle she has now on the salary of a single woman?

I agree with practically every answer posted so far. Don’t you want to teach your daughter any work ethics? There is no NEED for a car that fancy. It can even be dangerous! No matter how responsible you think she is, she is still a teenager! It is not a good idea all the way around.

  • Ian:

It would be like giving a 357 magnum to a 10 year old. This is a very dangerous car in an inexperienced drivers hands. Definitely not!!
If you want to get her a really cool car, safe, dependable and something she’ll enjoy, try an Infinity G-37.
It’s quick, but Much safer and more forgiving than a Lamborghini.

  • LT:

Sure… but then you dream a lot.. if you had the money to buy a car like this, you would not be asking about it here on YA.

for that kind of cash you feed most of the homeless in la.

hmmm… 5 months ago, you were an 18 year-old virgin worried about the size of his penis.

now, such a short time later, you’re all grown up and are the senior director(y) at a lamborghini dealership, worrying about which car to buy your 17 and 18 year old daughters… why does the 17 year old have to have a used one, btw? don’t you think she’ll be jealous of the 18 year old for having a new one?

i can’t wait until next month when you’ll be asking questions about retirement options and medicare…

  • Joe:

yes, lets spoil our children by buying them everything they want, that way, they won’t have to work, which i doubt they do anyway if you’re buying them that kind of car.

  • Michael J:

that car is way to dangerous for a 18yr old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!if i were going to buy my child a car,it would be one that would allow me to sleep at night!!
