How much should I pay for a new 2010 Hyundai Elantra GLS? I want to get one, but I don’t want to get ripped off. How cheap can you really get these cars?

It depends on where you are, but you should by able to get one for as low as the mid sixteen thousands.

mid 16K is my guess, as well. and you may be able to get that as an “out the door” price. this car will also have rebates coming this year, too. if not already. and, a totally redesigned Elantra will be coming for the 2011 model year. so if you can wait some, the best deals might be yet to come, as dealers should be blowing the cars out
don’t discount something “preowned,” either. unless “Certified” you will lose 40,000m and 5 years off the “Powertrain” warranty, but you will get the remainder of the 5 year, 60,000m bumper to bumper warranty. which makes these cars very attractive if a little used. good bargains can be found
also, if you live in a “PZEV” state (California, for example) and get a PZEV Elantra, most of those states warranty the emissions system for 15 years and 150000m. and that covers a lot of stuff!
to see what people are paying NOW across the country and any incentives which Hyundai might be offering right now, look up the 2010 Elantra at the below link. it gives a good indication of what the cars are actually selling for as opposed to what dealers want for them

its a “make an offer” site, but you can use it for research, as well
There is currently cash back rebate of $ 1500 on the Elantra GLS with base MSRP of $ 16,900. Assume the car has at least floor mats/cargo mat for another $ 175 and you are at $ 17,075+$ 720 Freight for total of $ 17,795. Now I’d ask for at least $ 1000 off the price plus the $ 1500 rebate and pay $ 15,295 at most prior to tax/title/fee’s. If there are 2 Hyundai dealers in your area you’ll be able to get an even better price. Most dealers will do price quotes by email, this will save you time BSing with the sales manager and driving around.
