Future proofing: Xbox One to support 3D and 4K content

The Xbox One is a next-generation console, and as such, it’s built with some future proofing in mind. It can do things you’re not quite ready for just yet, such as play back 4K resolution games, movies, and TV. And it’ll support 3D visuals too, despite the fact that 3D in the home has yet to catch in any meaningful way when it comes to TV, movies, or games. Microsoft noted that the new console would support 4K at the Xbox One launch event on Monday, but 3D support was kept under wraps until Xbox spokesman Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb mentioned it in a Wednesday Yahoo chat session.

Yahoo has just taken the wraps off a major update to Flickr, it’s long-suffering photo service, and we just sat down to put the revamped service through its paces to see how it has improved — and whether or not it’ll be enough to keep up with the likes of Facebook and Google+. While it’s a massive visual improvement, it’s still works much like the Flickr of old, for better or for worse. But for a visual site like Flickr, those changes make for a huge upgrade over what users experienced before.

Question by hello world!!!!: What are the basics of robots and how do you build one?
I have to build a robot for a project and I’m freaking out cuz I know nothing about robots!!! What do I do?? How do you build a robot? what are the basics of it?
It’s a machine. Sorry for my misuse of words. I always get confused. I need to build a machine that moves with wheels and has an arm that picks up things.

-Move to Point b:
(assuming u r @ pnt A)Turn & face point B, move until u r @ pnt B, end or next instruction
-Pick some thing up:
move arm to obj, grasp obj, lift, move obj to pnt B,lower obj, release, end or next order.
Notice: I have barely touched robotics.

Amtrak boosts WiFi on select trains, more upgrades coming this summer

There are plenty of wonderful things about train travel: the leg room, the scenery, the lack of security pat-downs. The WiFi, on the other hand, has long been the slowest thing about Amtrak. The company announced today that it’s finally doing something about its frustratingly sluggish service, upgrading wireless on select trains, including the Acela express between Boston and Washington DC and a few California lines like the Capitol Corridor, Pacific Surfliner and San Joaquin. Travelers to other destinations will have to wait a bit longer for quicker load times — Amtrak has promised that the rest of its WiFi-equipped trains will be upgraded by “late summer.”

Remember ASUS’ Transformer Books? All is forgiven if you don’t, as we’re already approaching the one-year anniversary of when they were first revealed at Computex in Taipei. With Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processor options as well as the ability to detach and work as a standalone 13.3-inch tablet, the company’s taken to Facebook to announce that you’ll be able to pick one up in the US starting next week. Sure, Japanese buyers might have picked one up first, but interested hybrid PC shoppers should mark May 21st into their diaries. No official word on pricing, but preorder pages from MacMall earlier this year had the Core i7 model pegged at a hefty $ 1,479.99.

Microsoft is continuing its regular monthly updates this month, with a number of changes to both of its Surface tablets. The “Patch Tuesday” updates are rolling out immediately and for Surface Pro users they’ll include some improvement in Wi-Fi connectivity and stability. There’s also a video driver update to improve Skype and a specific OpenGL bug in Adobe Photoshop. Finally, there’s an update to enable the PXE boot feature, an option that administrators typically use to install a copy of Windows across a network. There’s no sign of the updated Wacom driver for improved sensitivity in desktop apps.

As the US military discovers just how useful drones can be, it’s eager to keep them flying as long as can be, and the US Office of Naval Research now has a drone that can fly for two whole days. The Ion Tiger, an experimental surveillance plane that uses a hydrogen fuel cell as its power source, flew for a record 26 hours using pressurized hydrogen back in 2009, but late last month it managed a full 48 hours and one minute thanks to a new cryogenic storage tank filled with liquid hydrogen.
