Skype video calling launches for Outlook.com, available in UK today and US in ‘coming weeks’

When Microsoft first unveiled its Outlook.com webmail service in July, the software maker promised Skype video calling from the web. While Outlook.com has seen a number of updates over the months, including a calendar UI refresh, Skype integration has been missing in action. Fortunately, that’s changing this week. Microsoft is announcing that Outlook.com will now support Skype video calling.
The roll out will start in the UK today, followed by US and Germany availability in the “coming weeks,” and worldwide support by the summer. The integration works by first installing a browser plugin that interfaces with Skype and Outlook.com. The plugin supports the most recent versions of Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox, and Skype users…

Never Asleep: Eyelids Tattooed To Look Like Open Eyes

Presumably to match his existing brass knuckles and tribal face tattoos, this is a shot of some man who got his eyelids tattooed to look like they’re always open. That’s probably gonna make it hard for him to find a sleeping partner. Because I keep in mind dating a lady in university who had an eye that wouldn’t close all the method when she slept and I needed to ask her to sleep facing the wall so I wouldn’t have headaches. Incredibly, she really broke up with me for speaking in my sleep. Struck it, Alanis! ♫ And isn’t it odd– don’t you think? ♫ I have no clue if it is or not but YOU OUGHTA KNOW I was hoping for ‘Hand In My Pocket’ instead.
Thanks to chichi, who’s not especially head over heels for eyelid tattoos. I’ll stop now.![]()

Living with Glass, Day Four: Canyon Carving
More Info
Finally, the flash of newness is wearing off. It’s taken a few days, but the initial novelty of Glass, enjoying wearing it simply because I could wear it, is running thin. The haze of new gadget excitement is clearing and we can truly get down to brass tacks — but that doesn’t mean I’m not having fun. In fact I’ve had the opportunity to take Glass with me to do something very fun indeed: ride a Ducati 848 Streetfighter on some of the most amazing roads in the world.
Even as I did this, a jaunt more focused on gathering some exciting footage than truly evaluating the device, I learned some things — including the fact that a Google Glass headset doesn’t really fit underneath a full-face helmet. Not comfortably, anyway.

| Xbox 360, shown with wireless controller, is a sleek, customizable gaming and entertainment system |
Under the Hood
Xbox 360 is much smaller than its predecessor–it measures approximately 3.3 by 12.2 by 10.2 inches and weighs 7.7 lbs. It’s powered by custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical cores each running at 3.2 GHz. It also carries a custom ATI graphics processor loaded with 10 MB of embedded DRAM, 48-way parallel floating-point dynamically scheduled shader pipelines and Unified shader architecture. This is powerful enough to draw 500 million triangles per second. In other words, it makes for great looking games in standard TV definition, and even better thanks to built-in support for HDTV 1080i televisions. It also supports the widescreen 16:9 format.
The unit has a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, which plays both the game media and progressive-scan DVD movies right out of the box. For game-save and media storage, users can choose between the detachable and upgradeable 20GB hard drive, or a separately sold 64MB flash Memory Unit. Along with storing files, the hard drive will make the Xbox 360 backward-compatible with part of the existing Xbox game library.
Control your Gameplay
Xbox 360 uses a refined button layout for its controllers. Back and Start buttons sit at the center of the controller and between them is a new Xbox Guide button, which instantly takes the user to the Xbox 360 user interface. From there, they can check for friends online, access personal digital content like photos and songs, and more. The black and white buttons of the first Xbox controllers have been replaced with new shoulder buttons placed above the left and right triggers. Xbox 360 can accommodate up to four wireless controllers and has three USB 2.0 slots to use for wired controllers or for streaming your digital media from digital cameras, MP3 players, and any Windows XP-based PC. Microsoft has also created a video-conferencing camera, sold separately, that will work with the system.

The Media Experience
All Xbox 360 titles can be played in either standard or high-definition resolution in 16:9 widescreen, with anti-aliasing for smoother graphics. Game designers will be able to take advantage of the system’s multi-channel surround sound. The Xbox 360′s digital media allows users to supplement any game’s music from tracks in their own personal library.
Go Live
A built-in Ethernet port allows users to connect their system to a broadband connection for access to Xbox Live. The Xbox Live Silver Membership included with the console lets anyone create a Gamertag and gamer card to express your online identity, chat live with voice chat, and connect to the Xbox Live Marketplace to buy expansions, maps, and other digital items for your games. You can also update to a Xbox Live Gold Membership at anytime for even more benefits. The separately sold wireless adapter supports the common 802.11a, -b, and -g standards.

‘Draw Something 2′ now available in iOS App Store

Draw Something, the Pictionary-style game with a rollercoaster history, now has a sequel. Draw Something 2 for iPhone is available in the US App Store following launches in Canada and Sweden earlier this month. Among other additions, the game promises over 5,000 new words, more drawing tools, and a free draw mode, and can be downloaded as either a $ 2.99 premium app or a free, ad-supported game.
The original Draw Something had one of the most successful app launches of all time, leading Zynga to purchase developer OMGPOP for $ 180 million, but has since suffered a declining userbase. Zynga will now be hoping that Draw Something 2 is the game to turn the company around and make good on a pricey investment. There’s no word on when or…

Photos of classic film reels evoke memories of the movies they contain

As we move ever closer to all-digital film production, the film reel is becoming a rarer sight in modern movie theaters. In an attempt to evoke the nostalgia associated with traditional film, Austrian photographer Reiner Riedler accessed the archives of major film museum Deutsche Kinemathek in Berlin, selecting a mix of popular and cult films — which include The Godfather, Ghosts, Scarface and Citizen Kane — for his new project, titled The Unseen Seen. Riedler then photographed the reels by installing film lights behind them, generating a unique and vivid set of photos that he hopes will recall images from a viewer’s memory and help associate the colors with the overall tone of the film, generating new emotions from movies of old.

IRL: Bluelounge Messenger and the Blackmagic Cinema Camera
How do you make our one-man French bureau really, really happy? Obviously, the answer is to give him sparkling wine, a baguette and maybe a striped boatneck shirt. And also, hand him a $ 3,000 camera to tinker with. If you’re at all interested in the three-grand Blackmagic Cinema Camera, Mr. Steve Dent has some detailed impressions (and complaints) after the break. And if you’re not, we’re still on the hunt for the perfect gear bag.

‘Dark Touch’ review: a heady horror film that never quite hits its mark

Earlier this month we announced that The Verge is partnering with the Tribeca Film Celebration for the Future of Movie series, and we’ll likewise be reporting and evaluating brand-new films from the festival with the rest of April.
A few of my preferred scary motion pictures are determined by the weird, exclusive lives of children. Without a sense of what & rsquo; s regular or comprehendible, filmic kids can see truth or survive disaster, somehow knowing both even more and less than the adults around them. Author and director Marina de Van guarantees to develop on the mythology of youth with Dark Touch, a highbrow scary piece that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier today. But regardless of its potential, Dark Touch gets lost in its effort to blend genre tropes …

Duck Hunt pinball machine unites analog and PC in a nostalgia singularity (video)
We such as pinball. We like traditional NES games. Accordingly, it doesn’t take much deduction to understand that we truly, truly like Skit-B Pinball’s Duck Quest pinball machine. It has a completely mechanical, themed pinball device below, but there’s also a PC up leading that replicates the images and noises of Nintendo’s light gun video game in sync with the analog action. The conversion of a Williams Valiant took about a year of off-hours work to finish, and it shows– the focus on information is what we ‘d expect if Gunpei Yokoi had actually put all his energy into pinball rather. Our only lament is that the Duck Quest device is a side project, and it likely won’t escape into the wild. A minimum of there’s a video (after the break) to sate our interest.
