Android US Army soldiers to leverage portable battlefield network and smartphones

Smartphones: the future of wartime communication? That is the goal of the United States Army with the development of its mobile wireless network, dubbed Warfighter Details Network-Tactical or WIN-T. The Army expects to leverage WIN-T to deliver near-instant digital communication to the battleground by outfitting soldiers with Motorola Atrix handsets running a heavily customized model of Android. An exposé by Wired explains that the system’s major objective is details and intelligence sharing; between both soldiers and central command. Friendly troop positions, suspicious automobiles or individuals and monitoring online video from unmanned areal autos (UAVs) can all be mapped and shared with servicemen and females in the industry. It’s been a dream of the Pentagon since the mid-nineties, however has just just recently come to be monetarily and technically possible due to advances in smartphone processing power.
