Little-known alternative to Safari & Chrome for iPhone, iPad
I’m always partial to products that come out of small companies and independent developers. After all, Dell and Facebook started in dorm rooms, and giant companies like, Microsoft, HP and Apple launched as shoe-string operations It is, you might say, the Silicon Valley way, even if some of those outfits were born outside of California. So it’s good to see a worthy competitor to Apple’s Safari …

I am worried that our daughter has become a spoiled brat…what should i do?…?
Question by tihspidaru: I am worried that our daughter has become a spoiled brat…what should i do?…?
my wife can’t tell our daughter “NO” on anything…first of all our daughter is going to be 15 in a few days…she doesn’t have any chores, and doesn’t do anything she is asked to do and still gets $ 25 a week allowance (plus her mother gives her money other than that for anything she wants as that $ 25 dollars never covers everything the daughter “wants”…you know, thing like $ 3 dollar bottled water, cappuccinos, etc…)…her birthday is in a few days…we really didn’t have the money to do this but we got her an electric guitar, amp, and all the things that go with all that, plus we are paying $ 50 a week for lessons…we told her that this is your big present for your birthday!…well, her “godmother” has a sugar daddy now…they just informed us that they asked our kid what she wanted for her birthday and she told them and “ipad!”…of course the one that is over $ 800…well, they are getting it for her…(oh, let me say they take this girl out to steak dinners, buy her things all the time etc.)…i am not too pleased about this…this girl already has a $ 600 cell phone that she absolutely had to have (along with the $ 25 a month data plan)…things i am unhappy about?…1. that our daughter told them she wanted something so expensive…2. for the ipad it is going to cost US another $ 25 a month for the data plan…3. i had to put restrictions on our daughters cell phone because she was using it during class time at school, late in the night like 3 am on school nights etc…with this ipad we will not be able to restrict it, and it worries me she will be up all night all the time again…(our kid is not doing well in school as it is)…4. is it right for someone to buy someone’s child such an expensive gift without consulting them first especially when it is going to cost the parents money each month?…i am worried what our daughter has become…she has learned how to manipulate people into getting what she wants and doesn’t have to work or learn to save for anything she wants…i am afraid our girl has become spoiled lazy…what can i do about this?…the mother can’t tell the girl no…sooo, i have to keep my mouth shut to keep the peace around here and it is killing me inside!…don’t get me wrong, i want to do for our child (we have a college fund set up for her, are going to get her a car when she is 16, etc) but when does all the other things add up and make her feel like an “entitled spoiled brat”…i wanna blame all of these reality shows that have these spoiled rich girls in them…this is what she has become, BUT, we are not rich…because of all that we give this girl in crap she doesn’t need, my wife and i never get anything “nice” for ourselves or even go out for dinner, a trip, a night on the town, etc…any ideas on what i should do would be great?…or do i just let this little girl manipulate every single adult in her life?…

if you are her father talk to her mother about reasonable limits on spending for her. Let the grandparents do as they wish. It is less than 3 years until she is on her own at college. Perhaps as she turns 16 she can work and pay the insurance on her car and the gas and upkeep on it. Also ask her to take over her cell phone payment.

Child Of Eden Almost Had A Vibro-Belt Accessory

You might remember quite a few years back when the Sega “Trance Vibrator” for Rez made a stir by essentially being… a vibrator. Yeah. So they’re doing that again with Child Of Eden, Rez’s spiritual successor for Kinect, though a separate vibrating accessory probably isn’t going to happen. The game is shaping up nicely, though.
Kotaku went to a preview event where a newer build of the game was shown off, and one of the options available was to use additional 360 controllers as purely vibrational devices. This is actually an option in the XBLA game Rez HD, and the creator strongly encourages playing this way. In fact, during the preview, it was revealed that they’d even created a special belt that held three controllers on it so you could get really buzzed, as it were.
Alas, it almost certainly won’t be coming with the game, or as an accessory. Probably just a little too weird.

Bentley Collection iPad, iPhone, and BlackBerry cases are made of rich, non-Corinthian leather

If you’d like to give your iPad the same cosseting your posterior receives when you slot into the sport buckets in your Continental GT then you, good chap, are in luck. Bentley’s “luxury leather partner” Ettinger, which ensures no surface of the vehicles is bereft of animal hide, is releasing a line of gadget cases to cover your iPad, iPhone, or BlackBerry — though it’s unclear exactly which model for the latter. Prices? You’re looking at £45 for either of the phone holsters or £89 for the iPad-sized model. That’s about $ 73 and $ 145, respectively, and a lot of cash for a little hide. If you’re still not dissuaded there’s another image of the tablet-sized version and a press release below. Those, at least, are free.

Galaxy Tab 8.9″ To Hit Next Week At CTIA?

If the Galaxy Tab 7″ is a little too small for your taste, but the 10″ is a bit too big, maybe I can interest the reader in the 8.9″ version? Rumors have been swirling that a version right between those guys might be coming soon, and this teaser on Samsung’s Facebook page seems to confirm it.
An 8.9″ version would be a significant size difference, as you can see here:

It would likely have most of the same specs as the 10.1 but probably not quite as well-built, perhaps opting for the (still solid) style of construction found on the 7″ version. Here’s hoping they lose that big silver disc off the back.
Also, why not call it the Galaxy Tab 9″, since it’s so close? Well, 9 sounds awfully close to 10, doesn’t it? 8.9 gets both 8 and 9 in there, which is nice when the next step down is a 7. Potentially very savvy, Samsung.

Mac OS X Lion hands-on preview

Apple announced Mac OS X Lion with considerable fanfare at its Back to the Mac event last October, and now it’s dropped the first developer preview on the world — giving us a chance to sample some of the big cat’s new features and UI concepts. We installed the dev build on one of our MacBook Pros and used it over the weekend, and while we won’t be able to see any huge changes in day-to-day workflow until our favorite apps are updated to take advantage of Lion, we did see plenty of interesting system-level features and additions — and yes, iOS’s influence is all over the place. Read on for a full breakdown of what’s new!
